, FL —
The jitters probably helped 14-year-old Cara Young grab Wellington Idol's top spot last weekend.

"When she has a little bit of butterflies she performs better than expected," her father Jody Young said.

The aspiring Broadway performer, who attends Dreyfoos School for the Performing Arts, beat 37 entrants to win $750 and a full scholarship for the Talent INC National Talent Conference & Showcase in March to perform in front of 25 talent agencies.

Young sang "Don't Rain on My Parade" from the musical Funny Girl to clinch her win.

"It was pretty nerve-racking at first," she said. Plus she vied against two of her friends during the finale.

Young's grandfather introduced her to Broadway tunes.

"She's been singing like a bird since she was in grammar school," her father said.

Three runners-up each received $250 cash prizes: Lexi Graves, 12; Lexi Luca, 15; and Andrew Spinelli, 20.

Earleen "Lee" Carey-Marlow, Rocky Duvall and John Stevens judged the contestants.
Several hundred spectators turned out Feb. 10 to watch the finals at the Wellington Amphitheater. The competition was open to anyone who wasn't a professional performer and was at least 8 years old living or attending school in the village.

Wellington plans to hold the event, which fields only dance and singing acts, again next January. And in June, it plans to host another competition, which will be open to other types of acts.

Congratulations to RaeLynn featured on The Voice!

RaeLynn is a Dolly Parton-loving, horse-riding, "Legally Blonde"-watching country pop artist who graduated high school two years early from her hometown of Baytown, Texas in order to pursue her dreams in Los Angeles. Growing up on a farm feels like a world away from her current life in Los Angeles, but with the help of a very supportive family and a coach like Blake, this 17-year-old is excited for the opportunity "The Voice" brings.
